Plano Youth Leadership
I had the privilege of being selected into a high performing service training called Plano Youth Leadership. Plano Youth Leadership (PYL) is an organization that started as an initiative by our Mayor to develop future civic leaders. The program is run by the City of Plano and aims to teach participants how to become better leaders. The program is highly selective and only chooses the best students with recognized leadership potential. The program lasts a year and introduces the participant class to a variety of community, government, technology, and private sector leaders. This often meant that we would interact in seminars and projects with anyone from the Mayor, Police Chief, or even a group of Vice Presidents at Toyota - headquartered in our City.

Within PYL, we learned how to achieve large goals through volunteer service. I spent a lot of time at Plano Youth Leadership going to different places throughout the City, learning about each one and how they help to service the community. I visited places like the Fire Department, City Council, the Police Department, and the Children’s Medical Center. I learned about different types of leaders, how to present yourself better to others, how the police tell if someone is intoxicated, and even how to shake hands properly! Plano Youth Leadership showed me a variety of ways to prove myself in service to others.
